After The Fall Was Over: Book 4 (Book 1 of the new Trilogy: The Silence and the Gods) 

After the Unity debacle on the day of Ice, half of the high-tech Unity's army lies dead, eaten, or captured on the battlefield of Aytlana, Jorga. Only two escape, Fettwap Aliende, and to cover his back, Captain Blanche (nee Riley) Woods, a TranTran (directed transitioned transgender). His flight and the murders of all who might tell his tale (save Woods) cover his cowardice. He seized power and then faced the question of what to do leading a defeated nation.

It is rather a more existential problem for the entities of the openCORE, who, depending on the longevity of the Unity for their environment, feel like "babes on the floor of a bar fight." They decide they must assert themselves into reality.
